Troubleshootin' with Ernie
A good RVer isn’t afraid to roll their sleeves up and take matters into
their own hands when things go awry in the RV. In this series, Ernie Herring
reveals which tools every RVer should have in their personal toolbox
and how to use those tools like a seasoned pro.

Nothing wrong with gen and shore power at same time. Transfer switch will hande, only one source will enter coach. Usually generator dominant. But be sure heavy loads ( Air conditioners, electric water heater and etc...) are turned off. If generator does not start it is something in the generator such as voltage regulator, generator model? If generator runs, check breakers on generator or a faulty transfer switch.

It is always hard to empty the tank and then add water back to the tank to recharge the system. Most all holding tank chemicals will ask to start with at least 5 gallons of water. If the chemical you are using does not do the job try a different brand to see if you can prevent clogging.

Any suggestions for Sani-flush that has plugged twice on our Heartland SunDance? Professionally fixed 1st time, but happened again. We always use RV paper & lots of water. Clean often & thoroughly when dumping. Use Happy Camper at end of each trip.

The slides will need to be extended beyond normal extension. That will be the only way to secure edges of new flooring under slide. Remove interior flashing or framework and extend slide to edge of floor.

What model of 08 Southwind do you have David? Tank drain is usually found in storage compartment but I can tell you exactly with model information.

The isolator will not draw power it only passes power from alternator to coach and chassis batteries. Check alternator for overcharging before batteries are damaged. Also check batteries with hydrometer for possibly a bad cell.

Not all water systems have a shut off to individual components. It would usually be located where the water line connects to the toilet. If one is needed it would be a simple process to install one at the toilet.
