Weeki Wachee: City of Mermaids
written by Lu Vickers and published by University Press. This book is a historical hoot, chock full of wacky pictures of Mermaids you have to see to believe. But funky pinups are not all it offers. Learn the fascinating history of this world famous attraction through the stories of the people who lived it. You can find this book at

SLIDE DOWN TO BUCCANEER BAY
The Mermaids are not the only reason to visit Weeki Wachee Springs. In the summer months, Florida’s only spring-fed water park offers overheated park visitors welcome relief.
“Everyone loves Buccaneer Bay,” says Director of Marketing John Athanason. “That’s a huge draw for the park.”
This classic aquatic playground is safe and fun for pirates of all ages. Soak in the crystalline 72 degree water or bask in the sun on the white sand beach. Cool off with a cold one at the Tiki Bar or rent a tube for an easy ride down the lazy river. Turn the kids or grandkids loose to brave the corkscrewing water slides.
Even the smallest swabbies have their own special place in Buccaneer Bay. Lil’ Mates Caribbean Cove is a place for them to beat the heat that’s just their size.
Rather play on top of the water?
Weeki Wachee offers canoe and kayak rentals that allow you to explore further into the park and experience the grandeur of Florida in a pristine natural setting.
DINING
Want to go hang out with the locals? Stop by Bayport Inn and grab a bite to eat at this casual waterfront bar and grill. Watch out for the gators! For menu options or for more information, call 352.596.1088.

A SLICE OF HEAVEN
Want to do a little fishing before or after your day at Weeki Wachee? Just head down to the end of Cortez Boulevard and you will find Bayport Park. Parking is free and the fishing is good down at the pier where the Weeki Wachee River meets the Gulf of Mexico.
If you brought your boat, you can launch it from one of the two boat ramps onsite. Bayport Park also offers restrooms, a covered picnic area and plenty of room to stretch your legs. Fishermen and nature lovers will find it a little slice of heaven.
