Roaming in Wyoming
Chapter 4 Recommendations by Faith
Twin Creeks Campground
Offering seven different RV campsite options and a complete line of amenities, including cable and WiFi service, Twin Creeks sets the standard for luxury camping between Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone. After finding success with their deluxe sites, Twin Creeks built several unique patio sites, perfect for motor homes towing cars or trailers. These sites are fenced and include a sun shelter, lounge chairs, charcoal BBQs and picnic tables. The best feature… A private campfire pit! While not every site at Twin Creeks is this well set up, the relatively small extra fee for the patio sites is well worth it if you prefer comfort to creatures. These and most other sites at Twin Creeks include electricity and water hookups as well as access to a heated swimming pool and adult’s-only spa. The camp’s main building offers food, souvenirs and, most importantly, shower and laundry facilities 24 hours a day. For pet owners, Twin Creeks provides an exclusive fenced-in pet walk.

Fremont Lake Campground
This campground is located just outside of Pinedale, on the second largest natural lake in Wyoming. If you are a boater—Fremont is for you. Otherwise, well, we’ll quote the Todds: “The Fremont Lake Campground was fairly nice. But, the lot was infested with ants. I would not recommend this campground, unless you have a boat. Then, I suspect you would be willing to accept the compromises to be close to the lake.”
What does that lake offer? Boating, sailing, fishing, water skiing… and some incredible scenery courtesy of the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Wind River Mountains. There is a season for the camp—the end of May through the first week of September—so call ahead if you plan to stay.

Whiskey Grove
The Todds loved Whiskey Grove and we think you will too. If you enjoy rustic camping, that is. This site is all about the atmosphere. Bare bones camping right on the Green River. The site offers drinking water, picnic tables, a few trailer pull throughs, vault toilets and fire grates… and not much else in the way of creature comforts. BUT, if you could use some genuine natural solitude, love to swap stories with some good friends around the campfire and like the idea of falling asleep to the sounds of a briskly flowing mountain river—this is your spot. One of the Todd’s favorite sites was the mayfly hatches floating like little stars over the river. If you prefer to get more actively involved in nature, Whiskey Grove is a great place for fishing, mountain biking, swimming and hiking. Shutterbug? This park is an endless well of opportunity.

Green River Rendezvous
Would you like to experience classic frontier Wyoming first hand? Then you need to come out to the Green River Rendezvous! Held annually on the second full weekend in July in Pinedale, the Rendezvous is like stepping back into 1830’s Wyoming. The entire town of Pinedale explodes with fun for the whole family—mountain man style. Visit the Mountain Man encampment and the Shoshoni village, listen to spellbinding lectures from period experts, experience the Rendezvous Pageant, shop at Trader’s Row or browse the art and craft fair. This is your chance to walk in the moccasins of the true pioneers of the Wild West, maybe get a little rowdy and have some good, clean frontier fun.
