RV Honeymoon
Romance on The Road
When Megan Poultney met her husband Joshua in 2004, she had no idea they’d be honeymooning in a travel trailer. “It was such a great experience!” Megan shares. “I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
While dating, Megan and Joshua discovered they both enjoyed NASCAR and camping. After getting engaged, they realized the best honeymoon would include all the things they loved—camping, a race, and each other. “We wanted to do something fun and different,” she laughs. “But I’d had enough of sleeping in a tent and being in thunderstorms. I wanted a trailer.”
The pieces came together quickly when they discovered there was a NASCAR race in Bristol, TN the weekend after the wedding. After attending a local RV show near their home in Medina, Ohio and doing some research, they bought their 32’ Trail Bay as a wedding gift to each other. A week after they were married, they packed up the trailer and traveled to the Bristol Motor Speedway, singing “Country Roads” by John Denver as they crossed over the West Virginia state line.
When they arrived in Bristol, they split their time between NASCAR races and family and friends who joined them to celebrate. And they really enjoyed their new trailer. “It was wonderful to have a comfy bed and a kitchen instead of a camp fire,” Megan jokes, “especially when your husband surprises you with your favorite bottle of wine and a romantic dinner.” From Bristol, they headed to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. After five days of roller coasters, candlelight dinners and sunsets in Disney, they decided to return home and start their married life together.
Megan really appreciates one of the best benefits of RV ownership—how well she and Josh work together as a team. “Owning an RV definitely brought us closer,” Megan says. “We have everything down to a routine. He handles most of the outside jobs and I take care of the inside. Our friends don’t understand how we do it, but three years of traveling like this has helped us to run everything like clockwork.”
It’s been three years since the honeymoon and their wedding gift continues to bring them new adventures. Megan and Joshua have traveled to a variety of places in their Trail Bay including West Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan, Lake Berlin in Ohio, and a return trip to Bristol. They look forward to taking their trailer on even more trips, spending time along the way to site-see and explore. While they look forward to eventually retiring and becoming full-timers, owning a trailer has taught them to enjoy the places along the way and not just a destination. Sometimes the best gifts don’t come in boxes.

My fiancee and I have been planning a travel trailer honeymoon too! We went the vintage route with an old school 62 Avalon but we have a lot of work to do on it before we can hit the road.
