You are full-timers, and or work campers, footloose and fancy free. Loving the life, working and or traveling in your RV. You get the question from folks, maybe at a fuel stop, or in a big parking lot, WOW, how many does that ‘thing’ sleep? Well, I suppose we all know the pat answer, ‘Drinks 6, eats 4 and sleeps 2’, but seriously, what can we do for our visitors. If you work camp in great areas like the National Parks, or other wonderful work camping areas, we will have family and friends that would like to visit. If you are traveling and going to these same great places; you want to share the experience, summer is coming, vacations and family travel and, they want to visit.
Let’s examine possibilities, and please comment below on your situation and your unique solution.
The sofabed/futon/jackknife even the drop down dinette: Most RV’s have some sort of extra sleeping, , I have a futon style. It will sleep one fairly comfortably, and two with some cuddling. OR, three young grandkids.
The floor: If you have two adults, not ‘involved’, you can always use the sofa and the floor with a little padding for a night or two.
Your bed: If you are still blessed with parents who can visit, give up the bed, then use the sofabed/futon/jackknife yourself, isn’t that what you hope your kids will do for you?
Tent: Older grandkids, nephews, younger grandkids parents; this group is all eligible to use the spare tent. Don’t have one? Get a nice little 3 man dome tent, it is a great addition for the back of one of your storage bays. Most places will allow the extra tent to be erected on your site. Keeps everyone close by for dining and togetherness, plus, it solves the where do we put everyone conundrum, because our motorhome, ‘sleeps two’.
Nearby hotels, lodges, motels: Of course this is always an option, based on weather and the comfort requirements of your guests. You may, in the work camping situation, be eligible for discounts for your guests. It is nice to pass these along. Of course, it is up to you whether your budget picks up the tab.
Last year we were able to host our nephew and two of his friends using the tent option. They had a blast, we got to show off our lifestyle and our work style.
However you solve this, it is fun and rewarding to share your experiences. It helps the understanding of the ‘why’ you have adopted this ‘crazy’ lifestyle. Once your family and friends see what it really is, you may have just planted the seed for future RVers in the family!
