If James Bond were an RVer, what kind of gadgets do you think he would have in his home-on-wheels? Undoubtedly, “Q” and the British Secret Service boys would outfit the rig with all of the latest counter terrorism and anti-bad guy devices it could carry. But, assuming the fate of the free world wasn’t at stake and all 007 had to worry about was his own peace of mind, physical well being and entertainment pleasure, what state-of-the-art gadgets would the man who championed the explosive toothpaste employ on a mission of fun in his recreational vehicle?

Although that would be something to ponder, below are a few things that we have found to be perfect for RV entertainment.

Tiffin Motorhomes
DVD Board Games

An unofficial study recently concluded that there hasn’t been a single American family to complete a full game of Monopoly since 1968, and even that watershed contest is in dispute. Realizing that the common board game needed a 20th century innovation, the powers-that-be within the gaming industry added the visual element of DVDs to their products and the American family is gladly spending quality time in the family room once again.

DVD board games are a great way to entertain the whole family in your RV. The tribe can take their seats in the living room surrounding the game board and take cues from the TV screen. The only tough part is agreeing on which game to play.

While I personally have many DVD board game favorites, I will suggest that if we were equipping 007’s RV, we’d be doing a disservice if we didn’t include the James Bond 007 Edition of Scene It? by Mattel. Because Bond has never had to entertain a family on a rainy day, much less do so in an RV, the least we can do is stack the odds in his favor!

Apple TV
Apple TV is one of the latest in a long line of media-savvy gadgets from the inventors of the iPod. Apple TV is designed to turn your living room into an on-demand movie theater by allowing you to rent movies using your remote control and your wide screen TV. You don’t have to be James Bond to figure out how to use this gadget, which many RVers feel is perfect for their lifestyle offering a wealth of viewing options without the downside of taking up precious space.

All you’ll need is a device that serves as a ‘go between’, bringing media from the Internet to your TV screen. At just 7.7“ wide by 7.7” tall and just over 1” thick, it leaves a small footprint. The device easily hooks up to the Internet and your TV simultaneously via a wireless broadband connection. Once the Internet connection is made, Apple TV allows you to browse, purchase and download your favorite movies, commercial free TV shows and music videos from Apple’s iTunes store.

What makes Apple TV so attractive to RVers is that it also hooks up to a laptop computer (either a Windows PC or OS X Mac) and allows you to display all of your favorite movies, music, TV shows and photos on your TV screen. It is a media lover’s dream come true!

Wii Fit
Wii Fit
Wii™ Gaming Console

by Nintendo
The Wii is the latest craze in the video game world, offering more than just a new way to experience games with friends and family. The Wii introduces an innovative concept in video games since users play with their whole bodies as opposed to merely operating a control pad. The Wii comes with a series of sports games including tennis, golf, bowling and baseball, though many more games are available separately. The Wii’s remote tracks body motion and translates it to the screen. So, if James Bond wanted to play virtual tennis against Miss Moneypenny, each would hold a remote, watch the TV and swing away as the ball travels into their virtual court.

Wii Gaming Console

Entertaining guests with virtual video games can be fun, but what’s a secret agent to do when it comes to staying fit on the road? Wii Fit™ is software that was designed to help users achieve fitness goals by offering more than 40 physical activities including yoga, strength training, balance games and aerobics. All Wii Fit activities are performed on the Wii Balance Board™, a peripheral to the Wii Gaming Console (sold separately), which is roughly about the size and shape of a bathroom scale. The Wii Balance Board is able to “read” a user’s real-life movements and bring them to life on the TV screen. Whether you are downhill skiing, doing push-ups, or posing in the downward dog position, your motions are tracked on screen. Your performance is also measured by the console, allowing you to gauge your progress as you pursue your fitness goals.

With its combination of video games and exercise, the Wii has become wildly popular among kids and adults since its release this spring. RVers are now starting to get in on the fun too. The living area in most RVs is more than roomy enough to enjoy all of the Wii’s activities and because only a small storage space is needed, it is the perfect take-along for any trip.

Sony® Reader Digital Book
Sony® Reader Digital Book
The Reader Digital Book from Sony®

This ultra portable Reader Digital Book holds up to 160 books at a time. And with plenty of internal memory and a slot for optional removable memory cards, you can take hundreds of titles, user-selected Web content, or other supported documents for reading on the go.

More compact than a paperback, it weighs just nine ounces and fits in the palm of your hand. It is powered by a rechargeable battery that allows you to turn up to 7,500 continuous pages on a single charge. The 6” display is almost paper-like with Sony’s innovative e-Ink® technology. Not only does the screen allow for high contrast and high resolution, the text can also be changed among three different font sizes.

Many RVers have chosen to leave their libraries at home after holding the Reader Digital Book in their hands and seeing for themselves that this gadget is not only the future of the printed word, but it is also an mp3 player. Thanks to the the Reader Digital Book, James Bond can kick back in his RV and read magazines on fine wines of the world, spy novels bearing his namesake, or current events in newspapers!

At this point, we have configured 007’s RV with a barrage of state-of-the-art, electronic gadgets that will enable him to read as much as he can handle, stay as fit as the he was in his Secret Service days, have his favorite tunes on standby and watch all his own movies so that he can decide for himself exactly which actor played him the best. For good measure, we have also equipped Bond with a series of fun games the whole family can enjoy together. All the while, his RV will remain clutter-free so that every inch of his coach can be enjoyed by both Bond and his guests. If you happen to be one of those guests, just be careful not to push any extraneous buttons. You never know what surprises 007 has waiting for the overly curious.
